The following positions are open for volunteering at the Inter-School Math Competition:
- Proctor
Guidelines:
Proctors must be coaches, teachers, school officials, or responsible community officials. The proctor may not be a family relative of any student participating in the competition.
Be sure to locate the exam room ahead of time. The students must have a quiet, ample working space free from interruptions and must remain under proctor supervision for the duration of the Sprint and Team Rounds.
Only one student at a time may leave for restroom breaks. No other breaks (e.g. snack breaks) are permitted during the Written Competition section.
The proctor must not answer any questions about the test.
Proctors should ensure that no participant has the opportunity to communicate to any other person by any means while the Sprint Round is in progress.
Prior to the Team Round, Proctors should instruct students to sit with their teams. A maximum of four students are permitted per team; students should not communicate with anyone outside of their team during the Team Round.
The only instruments permitted for contestants are pencils/pens, erasers, and calculators. Proctors will provide blank scratch papers as needed prior to each round. Calculators are only permitted during the team round and must remain under the student's seat or desk during the Sprint Round. No notes, books, headphones, or digital devices besides calculators are permitted. Calculator watches, however, are NOT permitted.
Instruct all participants to write darkly and legibly.
Prior to each round, instruct student(s) to write their name and school on the front page of the competition paper. At the end of each round, request that they double-check that this information is written correctly on their paper.
Blank answer sheets should be sent to graders even if the student did not attempt an answer.
Students may take their used scratch paper with them.
Proctors are responsible for timekeeping. The Sprint Round is strictly 40 minutes in length while the Team Round is strictly 20 minutes in length.
- Grader
Guidelines:
Graders may be parents, coaches, teachers, or other responsible adults.
Graders are not permitted to grade papers submitted by their relative(s) and/or student(s).
